...sewing projects just don't work out. I haven't yet decided if this one has or not.
It's Butterick 4978. I still need to hem the dress and reattach the neck binding, but I'm not sure I will because I'm not sure I like this dress. Don't get me wrong, I think the fit is good, and I like the style. I'm not crazy about the fabric. I used a satin backed crepe, when I should have used chiffon. The crepe feels, um, a little cheap to me. It's also a little too thick for all those gathers. Of course, I could just have mixed feelings right now because of that bias skirt which gave me more of a headache than it should have (lesson: staystitch staystitch staystitch!). We'll see if this dress ever gets finished or worn. I'll give myself a little time away from it to decide.

I think once the neck binding is reattached and its hemmed, you'll love it. When it's this close to being finished, it always feels wishy washy....for me at least.
It looks pretty in the pict. Best to try to stick to recommended fabrics on the pattern. I love the color.
You probably need to step back a bit. It looks great on the mannequin! I love the waist and skirt. I have had this pattern in my stash and didn't realize how cute it is. Thanks for sharing...I might have to pull my copy out.
I like the color, the style, and how it drapes. It looks gorgeous, but I can relate to the crepe-not-chiffon thing. It's so tough to finish a piece once you don't find it perfect any longer, isn't it?
Well, it looks great in the photo - maybe when you fix the neck binding the gathers may behave themselves - go on! Give it a go!
bummer!! i hope you reconsider though because that color is fabulous!
It really does look great in the pic! Hopefully a few tweaks and all will be well!
It's gorgeous! I made this one a year or so ago with jersey. Thanks for making me remember to pull it back out lol.
The colour is fantastic and it looks great in the photo. Maybe you just need a little break from it and you'll like it better.
It looks great, but I know what it is like when you don't feel 100 per cent certain about something. I have several things that I never wear, even though they do not look terrible, just because I always end up picking an alternative that I do feel comfortable in.
Hey Stephanie! I kind of see what you mean about the neckline, but only just barely. And when it's finished and on I bet it will look fantastic. Sometimes I get stuck looking at the picture on the pattern when my creation doesn't turn out exactly right. But that's not to say that what we've come up with instead isn't completely viable on its own. Plus, in your picture the fabric looks rich and the color looks amazing! So my vote is definitely to keep going on it. How's that wedding dress of yours coming?
It really does look cute in the pictures!
The color is beautiful! I understand your concern about the gathering in the neck. If you have not finished it yet, I have a suggestion. Remove the binding and the gathers. Pleat the neckline to control the fullness. Sew the binding back on the neck.
